You are creative, sensitive, and compassionate.

You sense on some level that you are different, and you've been struggling to take up space in a society that values money, success, and fitting neatly into binary constructs.

You yearn for love and connection, but you regularly find yourself feeling lonely, anxious, and/or depressed. Even and especially within romantic partnerships.

You have so much to offer, and yet you are not really seen or valued in your workplace. You often come home feeling empty and exhausted.

You care deeply about other humans in theory, but prefer the company of animals and plants. You can't be fully yourself around most of the people in your life.

You want to write a book, produce a show, start your own business, buy a house, travel the world—but everyone else's needs tend to come before your own. Your precious free time, if you even have any, is spent recovering from the chaos of everyday life, instead of doing what you actually want to do.

You see beauty in the most unlikely places, in the smallest things, in people who are so often misunderstood, mistreated or overlooked. You have a way of looking at the big picture, and imagining how wonderful things could be.

But you are also feeling hopeless. Scared. And possibly very, very angry. You are angry that we as a society have let things get this bad. You are angry that you've been working so hard just to survive, while others get to sit in blissful ignorance—reaping the benefits of our empathy, artistry and care. Perhaps you are just...angry. And you don't know what to do with that.

Is any of this true?

If you didn’t care what other people might think, what would you do?

ki-tsu-ne:

A trickster fox from traditional Japanese folklore, believed to possess supernatural abilities.

They act as a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms, and can shape-shift into other life forms.

In popular culture they are depicted with anywhere from 1-9 tails, thought to represent both their age and level of spiritual enlightenment.

Kitsune can be mischievous or benevolent, depending on the situation. (wink)

As an introverted creative, I struggle to “sell” myself. Like so many of us have undoubtedly experienced, the skill-set we use daily in our chosen practice is entirely different than the one needed to communicate our offerings effectively.

I wanted to create a logo, business name and tagline that does most of the work for me. One that acts as a beacon, attracting the kinds of people to my coaching practice that I most love working with—whom I’ve come to affectionately call, “Colorful Beings.” I have found that there is so much overlap within the queer, neurodivergent and creative communities—so much pain and struggle, but also so much beauty, passion, and LIFE. I feel the most “me” when I spend time at these intersections, around people with shared values and experiences <3

An awakened Colorful Being exists in perpetual creative response to every moment. They do not blindly follow rules, nor cave under the pressure of outside expectations. They are trend-setters, role-models, and leaders. They use their heightened sensitivity, creativity, wisdom and compassion to find innovative solutions to the great problems of the world.

This gorgeous Kitsune Coaching logo, designed by queer Vermont-based artist Diana Clarke, embodies all that I want my coaching practice to be: warm, inclusive, wise, and delightfully mischievous.

Glennon Doyle: What do you mean, when you say "people like me?"

Alok Vaid-Menon: Thank-you for clarifying, because on a superficial read, it would mean trans people; but that's not actually what I mean. What I mean, is people who are choreographing the rhythm of their life to the cadence of love. Whose metronome is beauty, not normativity. People who color outside the lines, because the lines don't exist."

Why choose me as a coach?

Training/Credentials:

Unlike many self-proclaimed life coaches out there, I am certified by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and I completed the comprehensive 9-month “Wayfinder Life Coach Training” program developed by Martha Beck, aka life coach to Oprah Winfrey. Check her out, I highly recommend her book “Finding Your Way in a Wild New World,” and her podcast “Bewildered” with Rowan Mangan. She’s fantastic.

I also happen to have a master’s degree in Music Performance, and spent 11 years touring and performing as a violinist with the Montreal Symphony. I didn’t get a fancy seal to show for it, but I do understand at a cellular level what it takes to be a successful artist these days—a unique blend of passion, skill, tenacity, and psychosis.

Life Experience:

I am the proud recipient of a shitload of intergenerational trauma. Without sharing too much of my mom’s story here, she has been through A LOT. And thus, so have I.

My unorthodox upbringing shaped me into someone who is curious, open-minded, intuitive, and empathetic—not to mention a fierce advocate for mental health, and LGBTQ rights.

I am intimately familiar with the concepts of addiction, anxiety, ADHD, autism, depression, suicidal ideation, gender dysphoria, internalized homophobia, narcissistic and emotional abuse, codependency, CPTSD, avoidant and anxious attachment styles, and really anything that attempts to explain why so many of us are suffering. I am not a licensed therapist and can not diagnose or treat any of these issues; but I will listen with an open heart if they come up in session. I can always refer you to a specialist if you are needing support outside of my realm of expertise.

Overall Vibe:

I’m neurodivergent, I’m queer, and I’m an artist—so yes, I’m a little “weird” :) I exist in perpetual creative response to every moment. There is no mask, no fakeness. No flowery, new-age gibberish. I acknowledge that a person’s various privileges or lack thereof play a role in our ability to be fulfilled and successful in life. I am here to listen to your experience, and help you find freedom within the confines of systemic oppression.

I strive to create a warm, gentle space where my clients feel safe to be completely themselves. I take my clients seriously, treat them as equals, and believe that there is always room for silliness <3

Testimonials

  • "Working with Lauren is an absolute delight. One of my favorite things about her as a coach is how she pairs deep sensitivity and empathy with a spirit of play. I love how she tunes in and intuits when it’s time to lean in to a more creative problem-solving space and when it would be useful to do some thought work. I know that when I come into a session, I’m going to have a partner who is looking out for me and that allows me to fully relax and engage—and that’s where all the magic happens for me. "

    Angela R, California

This helped me with my career, relationships, and life direction. Lauren’s coaching sessions had a really positive effect on my life. "

    E. Mason, New York

“When we’re growing up, there are all sorts of people telling us what to do, when really what we need is space to work out who to be.”

—Elliot Page
